They were common on the territory of modern USA up to the early 18th century. The first settlers killed them in large numbers and destroyed their habitats. Tough relationships with humans continued up to the 1940’s when the Bald Eagle Act was passed. Although protected by the government, Bald eagles suffered much from pesticides, lead and other agents.
